Week 26 - Dulag 12/13/2011

(and finally 6 days later we got the actual story)

so kind of late on the letter sorry i didnt get released from the hospital until about 430 and christmas conf started at 5, so straight there then home to dulag with the whole zone in a jeep! pretty fun.

but to start out the week Monday was great, i have been in such a great mood lately then tuesday district meeting, then we ate and went out to work. around 2:30 we were walking to see  a member and as we were walking down the highway....
i slipped on a log on the side of the road then slipped in mud with the other foot i put my arm out to catch myself and it hyper extended and i heard a crack! so not good! we then sat for a minute trying to figure out what to do and a bunch of motor drivers stopped and asked how i was.  of course not good. then a members son came running and he walked us back to his house while i held my right arm up with my other hand. his mom kind of cleaned me up and then we walked about a mile back to the apartment so i could change. we couldnt get a hold of president or any of the zone leaders because they were all in one meeting. then we went to tacloban on a bus and as we got close sis Anday called and waited for us at the office. they took us to the hospital for x-rays, yay! then the doctor took forever to show up, just like everything else in this country, and told me i fractured my radius and my radial head is out of place and needs to be straightened out with a pin. then they kind of gave me a cast, its only on the bottom and they wrapped it with ace bandage. then president took me and elder ostler out to dinner and had the office elders drive us home. not much sleep with this cast thing.
then work, kind of, on wedsday and thursday when it wasnt raining. while we waited for president to get approveal from the office in manila for surgery.
then friday morning we got a phone call to be in tacloban at 2.  then we went to hospital to stay the night because thats what you do here. surgery was supposed to be in the morning but that didnt happen because then i had the choice of having a screw which i wanted because its just 1 surgery and i get my cast off in 2 weeks instead of 3. so the surgery was at 2 but then the plane was late that was bringing my screw from cebu. so then 4, and didnt actually have surgery until like 6 and didnt wake up from it until 11 that night. turns out the good pain pills are illegal in this country!  i had an iv in my hand until i got released monday so i could get "pain medicine" but there was no difference between when i had it and when i didnt. (I'm guessing it was pump her could control when he got meds) i think it was just water! so then when i left i was prescribed ibuprofan for pain medicine! i was like what? serious? but what ever. i would send you the pictures but i havnt gotten my package yet. they got mail first thing in the morning monday so it wasnt there yet. oh well maybe next week. i have like 14 stitches because they dont have the technology for orthoscopic surgery. it kind of scared me, they gave me an iv and no heart monitor. i had an iv for 3 days and only had a heart monitor during the surgery. ive slept like a total of 10 hours this week because the cast, and in the hospital nurses come check on you every 2 hours or so. so not fun! but one funny thing, i think sister andaya might send you, is another elder brushing my teeth its kind of weird but he is really nice. sister andaya fed me because i had no hands for 3 days! she fed me so much! i ate mcdonals, kfc and all kinds of good stuff. it was amazing.

then christmas conference was amazing, got to meet lots of missionaries. one knows bailey danahoe (a friend from Memphis) and another is from bakersfeild (where we are from in CA) they were companions in the mtc. weird! but elder leichman has to go home to have surgery on his wrist, kind of sad but he should be coming back. well thats really all. love you guys dont worry im fine just a little tired.
